Located in a residential neighborhood, Hacienda Playa occupies an expansive space with enough seating options to appeal to local families looking for an easy night out. Separated into two parts, the more casual front bar is actually a large covered patio with couches in a bright red setting, while the dining room is rimmed in round booths, with wood floors and low-hanging metal light fixtures. Happy hour runs from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, offering guests plenty of time to enjoy house margaritas or draft beers. At the tortilla bar, a large supply of corn masa is used to craft tortillas --- a good complement to the chunky guacamole. Albondigas soup has a thick broth filled with spicy meatballs, topped with melted cheese. Though the requisite burritos, tacos and fajitas are available, specials like the spicy braised pork in a smoky red chile sauce, or large sweet shrimp are interesting alternatives. Flan and dense chocolate cake make for a satisfying ending.
