Formerly known as Haven Gastropub, Haven Craft Kitchen + Bar rocks Old Towne Orange's normally sleepy restaurant scene. The interior is lively and contemporary with its big picture windows, wood floors, stone walls and flat-screen TVs. Further enhancing the spirited ambience is the list of reasonably priced local and international microbrews on tap and in bottles. Executive chef Craig Brady oversees a menu full of comfort cuisine prepared with carefully sourced ingredients. Dishes like twice-smoked deviled eggs, mac 'n' cheese with black truffle béchamel, and a burger topped with aged goat cheddar and tomato marmalade deliver familiar satisfaction. Forward-thinking dishes like the lamb cavatelli and pistachio mint pesto or crispy pig head terrine are on hand for those that want to dig into something a little more complex. Desserts have a gourmet edge, too, as demonstrated by the house-made cinnamon beignets served with salted caramel crème.
