House of Prime Rib Restaurant Review:

Dark English-style old-school atmosphere, enhanced with fireplaces, dominates this longtime San Francisco restaurant that pleases those on the hunt for decent prime rib. A meal includes the works: a salad bowl of seasonal greens tossed with house dressing at the table; mashed potatoes with brown gravy or a baked potato with butter, sour cream and chives; Yorkshire pudding; creamed spinach; and a cream of horseradish sauce. They all complement the slabs of rare to well-done prime rib, carved tableside from stainless steel carts. Aged 21 days, the Midwestern corn-fed beef is offered in cuts ranging from the substantial namesake House of Prime Rib to a more conservative selection called The City. Then again, why not live large with the hefty King Henry VIII? Adding to the possibilities are a fish dish and a children’s prime rib dinner. The wine list, mostly reds, suits the menu and proposes a smattering of half bottles. Meanwhile, charming cocktails are poured at the full bar and your martini or Manhattan will arrive in the shaker. Classic desserts include crème brûlée, English trifle, and warm apple crisp with walnuts and vanilla ice cream; there’s gluten-free chocolate cake, too.
