Icebox Cafe Restaurant Review:

Originally a bakery, opened just off Lincoln Road in the mid-1990s, the Icebox soon expanded into a full-service bakery/café serving savories as well as sweets: sandwiches, salads, limited global dinner entrées, and brunches that drew hordes of regulars for unusual offerings like sopes: house-made Mexican corn tarts with chorizo, scrambled eggs, black beans, two cheeses and fresh salsa. But what really kept the crowds coming were the unique desserts and pastries, ranging from signature old-fashioned icebox cakes to contemporary creations like raspberry chocolate mousse cake (featuring Belgian chocolate and fresh berries), tangy-sweet cranberry orange cake, or a moist Bundt-shaped sour cream pecan coffee cake. In Icebox’s present location, the café’s physical size has increased as has its savories menu. As far as sit-down meals go, brunch is still what packs ’em in. But sweets still rule.
