Kyushu Japanese Restaurant Sushi Bar Restaurant Review:

A meal at Kyushu commences with a heated, moist towel. Functional, yes, but also emblematic of the warm hospitality of this tiny Japanese restaurant. Clean, bright, and modest-looking, and adorned with Asian screens, it doesn’t boast the trappings of newer, more glam sushi bars. But it’s one of the longest established in the area and still reigns among the best for quality and authenticity. It’s where many local chefs of all culinary stripes head in their off-hours when craving a sashimi fix. Whether you order spinach scallops (sautéed with ginger sauce) or a soul-satisfying soba bowl from the kitchen or one of the many rolls prepared before you by the sushi chefs who are, appropriately, centrally located, you’re in for a happy meal. Special entrées (charmingly described as “Advanced Japanese Food” on the laminated menu) like atsuage oroshi (white radish and fried tofu) or hamachi kama (broiled yellowtail collar) are worth veering off your California roll. Opt for tempura ice cream over tempura cheese cake come dessert. Given the freshness of everything, prices are very reasonable.
