Lattanzi Restaurant Review:

Housed in an historic brownstone with exposed brick and wood beam ceilings, this restaurant has been serving slow-cooked Italian cuisine to New York’s theater-goers for twenty-plus years. A traditional menu includes beef carpaccio with aged Parmesan, homemade mozzarella bursting onto beefsteak tomatoes, and artichoke gnocchi in tomato sauce with pecorino cheese --- all seem to have arrived directly from Sicily. Classics like trenette al sugo di pesce, linguine with mixed seafood in a marinara and white wine sauce; and pan-fried breaded veal are simple and nicely executed. Lattanzi is known for its cucina Ebraica Romana (from the Roman and Italian Jewish cooking tradition), carciofi alla giudia (artichoke cooked in olive oil with garlic) and the flaky, crispy matzoh baked with fresh garlic and served hot --- signature dishes that linger seductively on the tongue. For dessert, the creamy sabayon is offset by sweet, tart strawberries. This elegant space affirms that life’s little pleasures lie in mama’s recipes.
