Lumpia Shack Restaurant Review:

Serving up Filipino comfort food in a tiny West Village space, Lumpia Shack started out with a stall at the popular weekend food extravaganza Smorgasburg. The brick-and-mortar location has just a few stools that look out onto the street, so it’s not the most ambient place to eat. But the kitchen makes up for it with the better-than-you’d-think fare. The namesake lumpia, a sort of cigarette-size fried spring roll, are good but overshadowed by the excellent rice bowls. Veggie options are possible and there’s slow-poached chicken, too. The ultra-tender and fatty pork belly, however, is a must --- mixed with spicy chili sauce and a batch of fresh seasonal vegetables and rice, it makes for a satisfying cheap meal.
