At this Newport Beach location of Mama D’s Italian Kitchen, which opened in 2005, owner Keith Davidson carries on the tradition of serving simple, flavorful Italian food made from his mother’s family recipes. The super-friendly service starts even before guests are seated --- diners that are waiting for a table can relax on the couches at the entrance and keep their hunger at bay with bread. Kids are more than welcome here --- and their crayon drawings might even end up decorating the green and white dining room along with the posters of screen stars. Be prepared that the noise level can get loud with all the hustle and bustle. The menu features options like homemade ravioli, cioppino with linguine, and sausage and chicken cacciatore. Traditional Neapolitan pizza is available in three serving sizes and with your choice of toppings. Pastas can also be customized with various sauces, but keep an eye out for specials such as the tortellini with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and mushrooms in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce. The de rigueur Italian beers Peroni and Moretti are offered, and the small wine list includes Prosecco if you’re in a celebratory mood. Catering and take-out are also available.
