Mez Contemporary Mexican Restaurant Review:
Mez’s immense, colorful dining room is the perfect spot for weekday happy hour when you can indulge in a mojito, margarita or sangría after a long day’s work. The $2 tacos are a steal, especially the crisp fried catfish topped with chipotle aïoli. After a few bites, you’ll forget the Research Triangle’s corporate high-rises outside the window and settle in for a meal of chef Aaron Stumb’s sophisticated south of the border cuisine. The menu includes Mez’s signature creamy corn soup, chile-braised pork shank with cotija cheese grits, seared rib-eye adobado with mashed sweet potatoes and scallion succotash with lime butter, and chicken tamales with honey-pasilla salsa and green rice. Finish with tres leches cake swimming in custard, traditional flan, or mango upside-down cake. A small wine list offers appropriate choices, and the usual Mexican beers are available, too.
