Montien Restaurant Review:

Boston's happening Theater District is a peculiar realm, where song-and-dance shows full of tourists meet discos along the shadier edges of Chinatown. At the heart of it all stands this busy Thai spot. It's more upscale than most places of its ilk in Boston, with a full bar, mahogany aplenty and sliding French doors. And while the extensive menu covers the basics, it also offers a range of lesser-known regional delicacies, such as the “famous appetizer” of curry puffs filled with carrots, onion, corn and a potato mixture combined with curry powder, the whole then deep fried. Among other must-orders are the spicy beef salad and bean thread soup made with vermicelli noodles, pork, mushrooms and scallions. For seafood, we like the Red Sea dish filled with shrimp, scallops, squid, white fish and clams tossed in a spunky red curry sauce with vegetables. Finally, irrefutable proof that the Thai culture is among Asia's most adaptable comes in the form of a backroom sushi bar.
