The Mountain House Restaurant Review:
A wood-burning fireplace and pressed-tin ceiling set a cozy, rustic tone at The Mountain House in Woodside. Appetizers reflect global inspirations, as in fried wontons and calamari and a crab napoleon. Main dishes focus on meat, including roasted venison alongside traditional lamb, steak and ribs. Chicken, seafood and a Gorgonzola pasta are also available. Desserts range from vanilla bread pudding to a Black Bottom pecan pie with vanilla ice cream and Jack Daniel's brown sugar sauce. California labels dominate the wine list, though other regions are represented, too. A dedicated port and dessert wine list may be perused at the end of the meal. Note: Sunday a bar menu and drinks are served from 2 p.m., with dinner beginning at 5 p.m.
