Mr. B's Bistro Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Mr. B's Bistro is situated on one of the most high-traffic corners in the French Quarter. The offerings remain innovative, appealing equally to locals and out-of-towners. Partitions of dark wood and etched glass as well as lacy café curtains serve as the backdrop for green vinyl banquettes lining the walls. Gentle sounds waft from a centrally situated grand piano, and the service staff displays ample bustle and bravado.

Food & Drinks: The large grill fueled with aromatic woods produces well-prepared fish, shellfish and meats that are imaginatively matched with unusual vegetables. Spicy, New Orleans-style barbecued shrimp is a good bet, as are the fish beignets and pasta jambalaya. Super-thick gumbo ya-ya of chicken and sausage carries hearty flavors. Bountiful desserts are hard to resist: hot buttered pecan pie; three berry cobbler; a molten chocolate cupcake with fresh raspberries. Sunday jazz brunch presents such dishes as blackened Gulf fish with lump crab meat, and deep-fried coconut beer shrimp. The wine list, several pages long, probably has something for almost everyone, but you will be hard pressed to find anything from outside of California, except for Champagne. About 20 wines are offered by the glass.
