Mulate's Restaurant Review:

Mulate's huge (40,000 square feet) restaurant and dance hall, lined with prints and artifacts, evokes the atmosphere of Louisiana's bayou country, especially for first-time visitors to New Orleans. Tables covered in red-checkered cloths dot the spacious dance floor, where patrons twirl and shuffle to the lusty sounds of live bands. The Cajun-inspired menu proves that ethnic fare can be both fairly authentic and unpredictable in quality. Crisp zydeco gumbo blends okra, shrimp, chicken and a good andouille sausage. The entrée list is a hotbed of inconsistency, and includes a blackened Gulf fish in a creamy crawfish sauce. Don’t expect a fancy wine list, but do take a look at the specialty drink lineup and its honest-to-goodness mint julep. At the tables, servers present dessert trays bearing such standards as bread pudding, caramel cheesecake and Key lime pie.
