Nectar Restaurant Review:

Nestled in Mount Lookout, Nectar tries to live up to its name. Big picture windows, muted colors, wooden tables and scattered wall sconces set an uncluttered, minimalist scene. Chef-owner Julie Francis, who has held positions from butcher to saucier, delivers contemporary French and Mediterranean dishes using farm-fresh local and organic ingredients when possible. The result is creative and vibrant food that changes seasonally. A good start is a small plate, such as Blue Oven toast with marinated tomato and truffled goat cheese, or the shrimp ceviche with jerk-marinated salmon. For the main course, the Chinese pork, a sort of French take on an Asian dish, is one of the most interesting options. It's served with a kimchi pancake, Asian slaw and soy dipping sauce. Or go for the lamb and beef burger with a side of house pickles. For dessert, you can't go wrong with the cinnamon donuts with chocolate caramel mousse and candied orange. Nectar also has a weekend brunch, with the likes of black bean and goat cheese tamales topped with a sunny-side-up farm egg.
