Nirvana Restaurant Review:

Enter through a scene-setting carved wood Buddha to a fireplace- and fountain-rich space. Dine alfresco, in the main dining room, or in the bed-lined lounge, where a DJ spins at night. Executive chef Ramanuj Sahay offers traditional Indian cuisine that emphasizes high-protein and low carbs in a very untraditional atmosphere. The colorful and suggestive menu, which features a hand tattooed with a couple enjoying Kama Sutra positions as its cover, divides the meal up into “foreplay,” “loss of innocence” and for dessert, “sensuous pleasures.” Neither Nirvana’s food nor its service, sadly, lives up to its lofty name or artful menu. Besides the adequate basics---four types of naan, daal, tandoori and kebabs---Nirvana offers exotic dishes including wild boar chop, smoked lobster and mughlai quail stuffed with diced chicken and cheese. Nirvana is better-suited for soaking in the atmosphere while enjoying a snack and a drink from its signature cocktail list than a serious meal. For a more traditional setting, try its sister restaurant Bombay Palace across the street.
