Ostrich Farm Restaurant Review:

Husband/wife team Jaime Turrey and Brooke Fruchtman runs this serenely cozy jewel box in Echo Park, turning out smart and refined New American fare that might sometimes have a faint Provençal accent. Sunlight streams into the luminous whitewashed storefront dining room, where locals lounge, sipping cappuccinos and chatting over the neighborhood’s arguably best brunch menu. It ranges from a smoked salmon tartine to a baby beets salad, and a bowl of polenta with mushroom ragoût and poached eggs. During dinner, the room is more darkly romantic, as candles flicker over the marble bar and wood table tops. Roughly chopped chicken liver on toasts is a good starter, as is the pretty beet, fennel and parsnip terrine. Savory potpie enfolds braised beef, root vegetables, leeks and Stilton in a flaky golden crust, and nicely grilled monkfish is complemented by mussels, clams, chorizo and a tomato saffron broth. Persimmon tart with honey offers a bright finish. A small, select boutique wine list isn't cheap, but not many other nearby spots offer a nice Laporte Sancerre or Row 503 Pinot Noir.
