Palermo Restaurant Review:

The regulars don't mind the wait here, since the owners offer a complimentary glass of red wine from a basic list. The big draw is the thick-crusted, Sicilian-style pizza, which is spicy, flavorful and loaded with toppings like meatballs, pepperoni and sausage. Old-fashioned pastas are also satisfying, such as the lasagna layered with four cheeses and bathed in Bolognese sauce, but more refined dishes made with shrimp and veal can be spotty. To go, sub sandwiches are tasty, especially filled with eggplant Parmigiana or sweet Italian sausage, sautéed onions and bell peppers. Not that you’ll have room for dessert, but there’s cheesecake, tiramisu and cannoli. Weekend mornings bring frittatas, pancakes and breakfast pizzas. This neighborhood institution has old-fashioned booths, map-of-Italy placemats and muraled walls.
