Panang Restaurant Review:

An old-fashioned diner has been spruced up with linen-topped tables, track lighting and a bit of Thai art by some caring and ambitious owners, who have also installed a small granite-topped sushi bar that turns out surprisingly respectable products. Thai and Chinese specialties are attractively presented and generously portioned, although not particularly memorable. But Panang offers a pleasant experience, backed by a 150-item menu ranging from mee krob to whole deep-fried catfish to curries to kung pao chicken. In addition to sushi, other Japanese specialties include teriyaki salmon, gyoza and soft shell crab. An extensive vegetarian menu lists almost 100 items, from mushrooms stuffed with water chestnut, to crispy avocado roll, meatless Thai favorites and veggie burgers.
