Rhode Island restaurateurs Ralph and Elisa Conte (formerly of Providence's Raphael Bar-Risto) returned to the local dining scene with this lively South County spot just over the bridges from Newport and Jamestown. This part of the state has had limited options when it comes to fine dining in recent years, but Plum Pt. Bistro delivers the goods with adept preparations crafted with quality local ingredients at bistro prices. French and Italian touches influence many of the seafood and pasta dishes coming out of the kitchen. Highlights include the short ribs braised in a mix of espresso and cocoa and the house-made pappardelle tossed with prosciutto, hen of the woods mushrooms, peas and fire-roasted tomatoes in a mascarpone vermouth sauce. Lighter plates propose a spinach and watercress or roasted beet salad combined with a few selections from the raw bar. Finish the meal with bananas Foster. This is a local hotspot so be prepared to wait if you wander in sans reservations; however, the indoor and outdoor bars are full of energy. Order one of the sophisticated cocktails, like an Italian accented Negroni or a Moscow Mule, and soak up the atmosphere.
