R/10 Social House Restaurant Review:

If you're sailing to Redondo Beach, you can't miss the red buoy R/10, a local landmark that's been adopted as a siesta spot of lazy seals. It marks the channel to the marina where R/10 Social House sits enthroned overlooking the animated setting. This seaside restaurant is decorated in an appealing blend of modern glass and wood, with nautical nods. R/10 Social House describes itself as a "neighborhood gastropub serving organic products from local farms." Pity they forgot to mention local fishermen as well. The panéed catch of the day --- corbina in this instance --- tops a celery root purée and greens in brown butter vinaigrette. The "Bad Cow" is a whisky-injected, smoked beef carpaccio that comes with beet-horseradish foam. Vanilla bean waffles and maple syrup accompany the fried Jidori (free-range, organically fed) chicken flavored with vadouvan (a blend of Indian spices), while two eggs crown the bacon sweet potato hash with salsa verde and avocado. All are hearty, generous dishes for carnivores. "The Chop Chop" salad of romaine, cucumber, radish and roasted tomatoes will be more attractive to the vegetarians. The sticky bun in brown ale caramel, loaded with walnuts and pecans (reminiscent of Middle Eastern baklava), is tempting but ranks high on the caloric scale. On the somewhat lighter side are desserts such as the strawberry pancake soufflé. There are four craft beers on tap and six bottled ones from Belgium and Germany, alongside nine house cocktails like the R/10 Herb Garden (gin, basil, strawberries, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, lemon juice) and a mostly Californian wine list that is short but well chosen. Service is friendly.
