Rio Azul Mexican Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:

Rio Azul Mexican Bar & Grill occupies a building steeped in desert history. The Indian Canyon Drive address is the former home of Livreri’s, an Italian restaurant often frequented by Frank Sinatra. In fact, Ol’ Blue Eyes' favorite table is still intact and welcoming a new generation of diners. The décor, with its tiled floors, tiered fountain and eye-popping hues, is very much reminiscent of a Mexican retreat. Chef-owner Ernesto Gastelum, a native of Sinaloa, Mexico, has introduced some of his favorite regional dishes, such as ceviche made with shrimp instead of the usual chunks of fish. Fresh ingredients are key, and the proof is in the guacamole, prepared tableside. Also getting high marks are the salt-rimmed margaritas. The chicken burrito, however, is too heavy on the citrus-cream sauce, which overwhelms the other flavors. Service is inconsistent.
