THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Roy's Restaurant Review:

Despite its proximity to a mall, Roy's in La Jolla's Golden Triangle is not a typical chain restaurant, as it has character and compelling cuisine. Inside all is abuzz, especially at the popular full bar that boasts a notable wine list. Dinner service can be a bit slow, but once you sink your teeth into the artfully arranged food, you will grant forgiveness. Start with the sashimi sampler, then try the Lakanilau Roll with Wagyu beef, snow crab, tempura asparagus, avocado, sesame miso and truffled greens. Besides a full sushi menu, there is also cooked seafood such as miso-glazed butterfish, roasted macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi in lobster cream sauce or red dragon shrimp with kimchi fried rice. The filet mignon was good, but lacked the intense flavor of the slow-braised beef short ribs. As a side, the truffled bacon mac ‘n’ cheese is worth the calories. For dessert, we favor the white chocolate pot de crème.
