Ruth's Chris Steak House Restaurant Review:

Ruth’s Chris has a long and storied history in New Orleans; the national chain was born in the city. Mile high ceilings, dark wood walls, softly lit sconces and a view of Fulton alley combine to make this restaurant a place to linger over a well-paced meal. Start with the wedge salad under a cloud of bacon and blue cheese, followed by a tender filet of corn-fed Midwestern beef. Steaks arrive still sizzling on heated plates, allowing the diner to finish cooking the meat to taste. Side dishes generally satisfy the appetites of two people, and range from broccoli, potatoes or spinach au gratin to Lyonnaise potatoes with onions or sweet potato casserole with a pecan crust. For dessert, go all the way with the caramelized banana cream pie. The surprisingly brief wine list still manages to cover all bases, including a number of Cabernets and Pinot Noirs; the always-dependable Penfolds Shiraz is a mainstay. White wines also are well represented; Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay is big enough to go with a steak if you must have a white wine. If you are a martini drinker, this libation comes no colder or more properly mixed than at Ruth's Chris. Service is professional. Also located at 3633 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 504-888-3600.
