This unpretentious sushi and Japanese restaurant is one of the oldest in the city, and it still draws crowds for its authentic dishes such as chirashi, a hearty bowl of fish slices on a bed of rice. Japanese dinners include kabayaki, a broiled eel selection; and yosenabe, shellfish in a delicate broth. Chopsticks replace silverware, and it’s acceptable to slurp while navigating soba noodles out of the savory broth. Bypass the small wine selection for a Kirin Ichiban beer, and give into temptation with green tea ice cream. High-backed booths afford some privacy and help keep the din to a minimum, but do not expect a quiet meal. This small restaurant is always packed.
