Shu Han Ju Restaurant Review:

A restaurant’s location is a crucial factor, as is the location’s history. This Sichuan spot’s home, set on Sixth Avenue and W. 11th Street, where a Famous Ray’s pizza-by-the-slice outlet existed for years, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but looks and addresses may be deceiving. Shu Han Ju’s lengthy menu is not for the indecisive. Braised beef in chili sauce has a spicy kick, while the crispy double-cooked pork is a porcine treat any carnivore could enjoy. Lamb with cumin sauce points to the north of China and is very good. For something less meaty, try the sautéed pea shoots with fresh garlic. There isn’t much by way of dessert, so if something sweet is necessary perhaps walk to the nearest ice cream shop.
