Silk Road Garden Restaurant Review:

Silk Road Garden is one of the few L.A. area restaurants that feature Uyghur cuisine, hearty noodle- and lamb-based food from Xinjiang in northwest China that adheres to Halal dictates. The space is colorful, with mustard-hued walls lined with traditional Xinjiang quilts and art. Tables are covered with glass, since this saucy cuisine can get messy. If you bring a group, it’s worth investigating a “big plate” of lamb or chicken with potatoes, scallions, peppers and thick house-made noodles in a moderately spicy red broth. Laghman noodles are like spaghetti to the third power, nearly thick enough to pull a railcar, and plenty flavorful with lamb and vegetables. Cumin-dusted lamb kebabs are popular, with tender chunks and bone-in ribs available, along with nicely cooked kidney. For dessert, or to mitigate the spice, consider tangy house-made yogurt dressed with raisins, honey and sesame seeds. To drink, Uyghur milk tea is about as wild as it gets on the Silk Road.
