THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Skosh Monahan's Restaurant Review:

From the outside, Skosh Monahan’s looks like a simple roadside pub. It’s also located several blocks away from the city's row of burgeoning hip eateries on 17th Street. But don’t let its under-the-radar locale fool you. Restaurateur and former Costa Mesa mayor Gary “Skosh” Monahan makes sure this place has both neighborhood character and good fare. It may feel a bit dark, illuminated mostly by red overhead bulbs and the glow of 15 HD TVs, but regulars seem content to dine in the large black banquettes. There’s a range of pub-style appetizers like nachos, along with a few surprises such as garlic mushrooms or seared ahi salad. For entrées, we like the tender rib-eye served atop garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Four Irish selections are always on the menu --- corned beef hash, bangers and mash and lamb stew among them --- and standard desserts fit the venue's relaxed ambience. Pepperoni pizza is one of the options on the separate gluten-free menu. The wine list is sophisticated for such a casual place, and there’s a nice assortment of Irish beers on tap, too. On weekends, guests drop by to pair brunch items like chicken fried steak and eggs with bottomless mimosas.
