Smashburger threw its bun into the crowded burger-loving Manhattan ring in spring 2014 and stood confidently like it had been there all along. Bringing some of its signature burgers (and one made just for this location), the burger chain has a few exceptional offerings: the barbecue bacon and cheddar and the truffle mushroom varieties are worth the trek over to West 33rd Street. For something unique, opt for the New Yorker: garlic aïoli, spinach and New York cheddar. There are different types of buns --- egg, brioche, multi-grain --- and all do a good job of being unobtrusive. Beer and wine are available and the company makes an effort to use local and craft varieties when possible.
