South of Beale Restaurant Review:

South of Beale (or S.O.B. as it is affectionately known) is located several blocks south of the tourist-driven Beale Street entertainment district. And it’s far less rowdy than the blues-heavy clubs of Beale. The space is small and intimate with a casual ambience, thanks to TVs broadcasting the game and a long bar that extends through most of the restaurant. The spacious patio is lively on warm spring and summer nights. Here you’ll find young professionals enjoying a happy hour craft brew or a glass of wine with a locally famous SOB Burger, loaded high with Gruyère, caramelized onions and fried pickles. More upscale mains include lamb kebabs or seared scallops. The wine list offers every available selection by the glass, another comforting notion. For dessert, the Jack ‘n’ Coke pairs Jack Daniels ice cream with Coca-Cola bread pudding, or try an adult milkshake spiked with vodka. On warmer days, don’t leave Fido at home alone --- dogs are allowed on the patio.
