Spoon Eastside Restaurant Review:
This family-owned operation, its walls festooned with modern art, focuses on offering dishes prepared using family-derived recipes. We like the basil rolls, presented cut into bite-size morsels. Curries are well priced and can be customized as to protein embellishment and heat levels, so bring all your vegetarian friends. Chefs specials vary according to the season, from soft-shell crabs to huge Nigerian prawns in a curry sauce. Rack of New Zealand lamb in basil sauce is a possibility as well. Desserts blend East and West influences, often pairing Western flavors with Asian concepts, such as pumpkin with sticky rice for the fall. Fried green tea ice cream is a menu regular. The wine list includes some good selections to complement Thai food, such as a dry Riesling and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. However, patrons may bring their own wines and pay a corkage fee of $15 per bottle. On Tuesdays, bottles of wine whose original cost is under $50 are half-price; cocktail specials draw patrons on Wednesdays.
