In a space centered by a tilted red canoe, Stoney River’s rustic, stacked-stone décor hits a comfortable note. While one may order any of the dinner steaks at lunch (this is the one local branch of the chain that regularly offers the midday meal), a bowl of the lobster-studded bisque or the equally rich roasted onion soup topped with a crouton and melted Gruyère with a salad would certainly satisfy. The best deal for the solo diner may be the seven- or ten-ounce filet, rubbed with coffee, brown sugar and molasses. Ask for it rare, and your beef will come with a cool red center. Vegetarians will have no trouble assembling a plate of fine vegetables. Grilled fresh fish is also an option. The wine list is fairly conventional, but a few good choices lurk here and there. For dessert, we suggest the Key lime pie.
