The first in the family of Taipei Tokyo Cafés resembles a bargain sale at mealtimes, and you'll be lucky to find a seat, or even standing room. The draw is the split character of this very casual place: One section features sushi; the other, assorted Chinese dishes with an emphasis on handmade and hand-cut noodles. Grab a menu, place your order, and wait for your food. To pass the time, watch the noodle maker at work in the front window. Noodle dishes are the best bet here. Another standout: the terrific beef noodle soup. The table turnover is fast, but you may end up sharing space with a stranger.
