Yakiniku is the focus, a Japanese version of Korean barbecue where diners cook various meats at a grill built into the table. The short rib and rib-eye are particularly tender and juicy; more daring eaters should try the sweetbreads as well as the first, second, third or fourth beef stomach. If the grill isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other delights, such as a foie gras-stuffed mini Kobe burger --- it arrives in a sizzling skillet wading in a hot pool of chocolate-barbecue sauce that adds layers of flavor to the dish. House-made cured bresaola with blue cheese and soy mustard is a creative option. Side dishes of Japanese cucumber and kimchi add welcome freshness. There’s only one dessert: homemade Madagascar vanilla ice cream with a choice of half a dozen toppings (go for the salted caramel). Several wines and sakés are available, but the best beverage accompaniment is the draught Sapporo.
