Tarka Indian Kitchen Restaurant Review:

Folks south of the river have been abuzz since the owners of Clay Pit, Austin’s preeminent Indian fine dining restaurant, opened a sister restaurant in Sunset Valley. The mall environs, counter service and noisy dining room are a far cry from fine dining; suffice it to say, you’re coming here for the food. Start with the samosa chaat---vegetable samosas topped with seemingly everything in the kitchen. Mirch masala (good with shrimp) showcases the fiery side of curries, while the korma is more suave, with a creamy sauce of cashews, almonds and pistachios (we recommend the lamb). The simpler basmati rice biryanis make the dedication to fresh ingredients evident. Beer and wine are available, though you have to get out of your seat to order a second round. But with almost every tongue-teasing item on the menu priced at under $10, you’ll easily find it within yourself to do so. Diners with gluten-free needs will rejoice that the majority of the menu caters to their needs.
