Via Alloro Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Via Alloro, from brothers Giacomino and Tanino of the Drago family, is more of a place to sit rather than to eat. The inside is in a semi-circular shape with a bar and tables that are slightly elevated from the rest of the space. Getting a seat on the patio, along Canon Drive and Dayton Way sidewalks, can be a challenge as it is everyone‘s favorite place to be. For more privacy, choose the outdoor terrace behind the restaurant.

Likes: The cannoli with ricotta cheese and orange pistachio mousse.
Dislikes: Service with attitude.

Food & Drinks: There are 60-plus items on the menu encompassing the usual Italian food categories: antipasti, pizza, risotto, pasta and the country’s version of soups, salads, fish and meat. The execution of the dishes is simple, making a meal at Via Alloro a casual dining experience. You may start with the grilled octopus served with potatoes and green beans in a parsley and garlic vinaigrette. The fried zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta and mozzarella were disappointing while the “Tanino Drago” pizza was interesting with its toppings of tuna, onions, mozzarella, tomato sauce and jalapeños. The lemon dressing for the seared tuna, cannellini beans and arugula brought flavors to this salad. There may only be two risotti (mushroom and a seafood version made black with squid ink), but there are eighteen choices of pasta (plus gluten-free options). A branzino is to be expected, cooked here in parchment paper, as well as a breaded veal chop topped with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella. The warm chocolate molten cake is not the best version we've tried over the course of time. The cannoli with ricotta cheese and orange pistachio mousse is the way to end your meal. There is a lengthy lineup of artisanal cocktails, and the wine list is predominantly Italian. Service can be a little rough.
