The Village Corner Restaurant Review:

Claus and Hilde Friese founded The Village Corner as a bakery and small café in 1974, and expanded it over time to include Stone Mountain Brewery. The couple’s son, Carl, is executive chef and serves as brewmaster, too. Four gleaming silver tanks beside the bar hold the upcoming batches, which include a very good Pilsner. The hot pretzel with house-made German mustard makes a fine starter, but pass on the "raclette," as the cheese gets scorched on the bottom. We've enjoyed the sauerbraten with red cabbage and spätzle. Classics dishes include German pancakes with sour cream, schnitzels, wursts, rouladen and schwein haxe (pork osso buco). After dinner, choose a dessert from the bakery, such as the strudel. Espresso is the real deal. A few of the wine list’s German reds, like Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), are interesting. But the remainder of the selections come from around the globe and have little connection with the food. Beers are much more interesting. The ceiling is festooned with flags from various areas of Germany, plus the U.S. and the European Union.
