Wild Artichoke Restaurant Review:

Although this small bistro is located in a strip mall, its unassuming décor and service are refreshing. The menu changes from day to day and borrows influences from just about everywhere. Sometimes chef James D'Aquila is inspired by Southern cooking --- try the crispy buttermilk-battered fried chicken or pasta with spicy Creole shrimp and hot sausage. However, he usually relies on Italian and French flavors for his seasonal menus, as in bolognese tossed with imported Italian tomatoes, escargots-stuffed mushrooms, Cognac-flambéed peppered steak filet with a rich Bordeaux sauce, or a Sicilian meatloaf topped with smoked mozzarella. For dessert, the crème brûlée features a daily rotation of flavor bases and the house-made ice creams are sweet and rich. Tarts, cakes, bread puddings and shortcakes are all made with fruits at their peak. The wine list, though brief, reflects quality, affordability and whimsy.
