The Writing Room Restaurant Review:

Fans of the beloved Elaine’s will find solace in The Writing Room, housed in the now-legendary restaurant space. Visitors immediately meet the cozy bar area with high stools and speakers oozing retro music. The main dining room is adorned with photos of the days when famous writers met at Elaine’s. Meanwhile, the food is American comfort all the way, with dishes like New England clam chowder sparked with a touch of fennel, a root vegetable salad that’s as artistic as it is tasty, veal meatloaf dressed with sultry gravy, and chicken done either fried or rotisseried. Begin with an appetizer of lushly sauced baby-back ribs, a specialty from owners Susy and Michael Glick’s Parlor Steakhouse, and dinner is complete. Finish with the chocolate-covered creamsicles or apple pie for two. Wines by the glass are nicely varied, from Argentinean Torrontes to California Zinfandel and Cabernet. Brick walls; “ghosts” of writers and actors past; and cheery, attentive service make this a go-to place on the Upper East Side. Elaine’s spirit lives on.
