Xolo Taqueria Restaurant Review:

Adorned with salvaged furnishings, this über-casual offshoot of the Doña Tomás restaurant group helmed by East Bay entrepreneur Thomas Schnetz is Oakland's version of a hipsterish Mission taco-and-burrito bar, sealing its status in that circle by serving Blue Bottle coffee and bacon-wrapped, jalapeño-crowned hot dogs as well. Locally sourced, largely organic ingredients coalesce into highly authentic, heartwarmingly traditional flavors. Soft-tortilla tacos are stacked sky-high with various toppings, including smoky al pastor, chili verde, chewy crimini mushrooms and the popular plump fried shrimp. Reasonably hefty burritos are stuffed with scrambled eggs, machaca, chile rellenos and more. Worth a visit in and of itself is the vegan pozole, its garlicky red-chile broth studded with vegetables and hominy. Wine, Mexican beers and house-made horchatas cool the palate; churros and Mexican-style hot chocolate sweeten it.
