York Street Cafe Restaurant Review:

Once a circa 1872 pharmacy building, York Street Café retains touches of its historic past. High-ceilinged rooms boast original woodwork in lovely condition. A myriad of memorabilia, from Elvis collectibles and an old bridesmaid’s dress to troll dolls and antique toys, furthers the vintage theme. The building has a restaurant on the first floor, lounge on the second and art gallery on its third. Tapas are a favorite here, especially the escargots and smoked salmon. The Toastie Sampler is a good choice, too, sporting two toasted pitas, one topped with creamy artichoke, spinach and provolone cheese; the other crowned with spiced, smoky tomato sauce, grilled eggplant, roasted red peppers and goat cheese. The sampler is served with a salad of mixed greens, dried cherries, feta, purple onions and sunflower seeds. Looking for something more substantial? Try the free-range Amish chicken. Stuffed with applewood-smoked bacon, onions and Gorgonzola, it’s finished with a hard cider cream sauce and served atop garlic mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables. Desserts are homemade (we like the rum Bundt cake).
