THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Metropol Restaurant Review:
THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED This West Village eatery---which sits at the very unlikely intersection of West Tenth and West Fourth Streets---has all the trappings of a downtown hangout of the hip and the Gallic: a long-distressed mirror on the back wall; globe lights (in this case, hanging off a nicely restored pressed tin ceiling); a long leather banquette that curves around the rectangular dining room; large open windows to look out onto the street; huge black and white photographs of Andy Warhol, Nico and Edie Sedgwick; and a late-night menu. But with uneven service and an inconsistent menu, Metropol is not going to become the instant Village classic that it wants to be. Still, the menu boasts more than a few highlights (and, by Manhattan standards, they're reasonably priced): the sea scallops Provençal are juicy and done just right while the grilled lamb chops with roasted rosemary-garlic potatoes is perfect for those in need of comfort food.
