THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mike's on the Avenue Restaurant Review:
In the 1990s, Mike's on the Avenue was about the hippest spot in town for cocktails and dinner. Then it closed, provoking citywide disappointment. However, when the time was right, the place reopened in the same location, but with twenty-first century ideas. Chef Mike Fennelly's menu changes periodically, but expect distinctive combinations such as his crispy duck with shiitake, andouille and tasso over brown rice. Fennelly brought Asian fusion cuisine to New Orleans in the restaurant's first incarnation, and it still appears in his saké-soy seared tuna with tomato ginger salsa and sushi rice. Desserts are equally exotic, the best of which is the frozen lemon soufflé. The wine list is limited, but works well with the entrées. Servers are well-versed in wine pairings. Mike's on the Avenue also features Twist, an upscale cocktail bar, which has become a see-and-be-seen destination for the after-work crowd from the Central Business District.
