Minero Restaurant Review:
A casual Mexican restaurant from The Neighborhood Dining Group, Minero is located at Ponce City Market. Lots of small tables make twosome sipping and nibbling after work a real pleasure, and the long bar, with its mirror faced back wall, is stacked to the ceiling with libations. Corn from three good sources, including one from Mexico, is used to make the fresh-tasting tortillas and the chips. The chips, however, are treated to a rub then fried. We advocate requesting them without the rub so you can taste the corn. Guacamole is chunky and seasoned with onion, lime and cilantro. Just right. You'll find the curiously fusion (low country meets Mexican) burrito with queso de Oaxaca, crema and that Carolina favorite hoppin' john, a black bean dish. For dessert, churros and chocolate are the only option. Traditional drinks include house-made aguas frescas. Extensive tequila and mezcal selections, beer and cocktails inspired by the flavors of Mexico support the fare. Expect a short but smart wine list.
