Monk's BBQ Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Yes, there’s an outdoor takeaway setup for folks who want barbecue in a hurry (note the big pile of logs awaiting the fire pit). But the real story, the real fun, happens inside the large, very-Western room with an extensive bar, tables and booths, and a kitchen to the back where to-go orders can be placed. The most arresting part of the experience, besides the feeling that everyone may start square dancing, is the smoky aromas. It’s a perfect setting for the live music, which often features bluegrass.

Likes: The barbecue.
Dislikes: It’s a bit noisy for friendly conversations.

Food & Drinks: The menu focuses on smoky grilled meats; Monk's used to be a food truck selling barbecued ribs, pulled chicken, pastrami, pulled pork, brisket, two kinds of sausage and smoked bacon on a stick. Come hungry, because chances are you’ll want to sample in excess of one entrée and side, and also go beyond just one piece of the custardy cornbread, which is more dessert than bread. Kick off the meal with Texas nachos, a plate filled with pastrami, jalapeños, smoked cheddar and chips. Add a side of the house beans augmented with bits of smoky beef. Potato salad, macaroni and smoked Gouda, and kale help round out the feast. A portion or two of the Southern banana pudding garnished with cookies is the final calorie count. Visit the bar scene for beers and bourbons.
