THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Monsoon Restaurant Review:
Monsoon reigns as the Gaslamp Quarter's most exciting spot for fine Indian food in an eye-catching setting. Decorated with colorful murals, hanging plants and a waterfall, this romantic restaurant takes pride in its traditional Indian fare. Brother-and-sister team Rakesh and Ashley Popat are savvy hosts. Start with one of the warm naan stuffed with ground lamb, herbs and spices or cherries, pistachios and coconut. Top picks for entrées include chicken cooked in mild curry cream sauce with golden raisins and almonds, roasted eggplant mashed and mixed with cream and spices, and vegetarian meatballs simmered in curry, pistachios and almonds. Traditional choices such as biryani, samosas and tandoori are also well executed. Sit on the patio and watch the people parade while enjoying a variety of curries or tender chicken tikka. On Friday evenings, belly dancers entertain guests, adding to the engaging scene.
