This newcomer is heaven for lovers of German and Austrian foods like schnitzels, of both the veal and pork persuasion, or full-flavored, hearty goulash with potatoes. Essentially, though, Mozart’s is an Austrian-style pastry shop and smart eaters plan their dessert first. There are dozens of temptations, not the least of which are the various plunder, the authentic version of what our Danish pastry feebly imitates: thin, succulently buttery layers of flaky pastry with varied fillings (cheese, walnuts, poppy seed) and sweet glazes on top. They’re fantastic with a cup of strong espresso or tea, which they make from loose leaves here.
