Muir's Tea Room Restaurant Review:
Nestled in a historic Victorian with a colorful front garden, Muir’s Tea Room could be mistaken for a private residence. Unfortunately, the confusion only starts there. The name and the dining room emphasize “tea room,” but offerings expand beyond as almost an afterthought: lunches with veggie sandwiches, pastries, chili, salads and weekly dinner fare. Also, Muir’s offerings are 100-percent plant-based, although surprisingly this is also kept on the down-low. An espresso counter with a showstopping pastry case and a gift shop are on site, too. Tea service is the mainstay: bottomless pots of tea served with house-made nibbles on tiered racks, such as traditional finger sandwiches, scones, jams and petite desserts. Beyond that, menus are as scattered as the selections, adding more confusion. Friday night dinners may include sweet corn cakes served with savory salsa verde and chipotle cream or coconut-curried stir-fried vegetables atop a bed of jasmine rice. Overzealous use of sauces often cause them to compete and overpower. No alcohol is served.
