THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED New Orleans Cake Cafe & Bakery Restaurant Review:
HURRICANE KATRINA: this establishment is currently closed. For a New Orleans Travel Update as well as resources, information and help click here. For years Steve Himelfarb made a living baking cakes in his home kitchen and peddling them---mostly by the slice---door-to-door by walking around the city. He became known as The Cake Man, renowned for his Divina's Dream chocolate devil's food cake and lush red velvet cake. Himelfarb is still running, but now it's in the confined space of this charming café settled along a breezy French Quarter alleyway. Sandwiches and salads made with impressively fresh ingredients may be made to order or grab 'n' go, a less expensive option. Himelfarb still sells his cakes by the slice, but cupcakes with rich buttercream are the prevailing customer fetish here. Open until 5 p.m. weekdays.
