In a moderate-sized, low-slung dining room shaded by South Carrollton Avenue's oaks, owner Nick LaCour purveys a broad spectrum of approachable dishes like meat loaf, lasagna, chicken stew and steaks, in addition to a broad selection of salads and sandwiches. Many of the main dishes have a distinctively New Orleans cast: catfish in a pecan crust, ribeye in marchand de vin sauce, red beans and rice. On Saturdays and Sundays, brunch at Nick's has quickly become a ritual for many neighborhood families. Eggs Benedict and Sardou (poached and served with spinach and artichoke bottoms) are the big sellers.
