: THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED A Waikiki landmark since the '70s, Nick's is a solid seafood house, although the prices are a little higher than the food should command. We usually skip appetizers here---except it's hard to resist the blackened sashimi with a coat of Cajun spices or the salad with shrimp and a creamy spinach dressing, a long-running favorite. Stay with the fresh fish---baked opah with lemon butter cilantro sauce, grilled mahi mahi with tropical salsa and a roasted tomato sauce or sautéed opakapaka with ratatouille. Desserts can be heavy: double chocolate mousse cake, Oreo cookie pie. But don't worry; the portions are so big you won't likely be hungry by the time dessert rolls around anyway. Service is good, if a bit over-attentive. Wine is pricey and the list features a bounty of California Chardonnays. |
